Recently did a dist upgrade, which upgraded firmware-iwlwifi to version 20210818-1.

On the next reboot (at least I believe it was the first reboot after the upgrade),
my wifi interface is missing.

Wifi hardware as reported by lspci:

As a workaround:
- I deleted /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-8265-36.ucode
- rmmod iwlmvm
- rmmod iwlwifi
- modprobe iwlwifi

That seems to have worked and produced the following output in dmesg:

I.e. it reverted back to firmware iwlwifi-8265-22.ucode. My wifi interface is back now.

Seems the new 8265-36 firmware is buggy.

Can you test the recently uploaded version 20220913-1 and update this bug?
