Package: linux-image-5.14.0-4-amd64
Version: 5.14.16-1
Severity: important
Forwarded: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1770
Tag: fixed-upstream

Dear Linux folks,

The upgrade from 5.14.12 to 5.14.16 makes systems with AMD graphics
devices unusable caused by a regression in 5.14.15 [1].

amdgpu 0000:26:00.0: amdgpu: failed to write reg 28b4 wait reg 28c6
amdgpu 0000:26:00.0: amdgpu: failed to write reg 1a6f4 wait reg 1a706

The fix was supposedly applied to Linux 5.14.17, so it’d be great if you
uploaded new packages.

Kind regards,

Paul

It depends if we will do another upload to unstable from the 5.14.y
series. The issue is fixed as well in 5.15.1 which is in experimental
and likely we will move 5.15.y to unstable next.

Followup-For: Bug #998799

Just tested the new kernel image on my AMD Ryzen 5 2400G and I see the
same problem. Initially I thought the system was dead due to the long
delays introduced in the boot process.

Here are the relevant lines from the kernel log:

dzu@krikkit:~$ journalctl -b-1 | grep amdgpu | tail -8
