Hi Team,

Can someone suggest the recommended way to build the "perf" tool and
package it into linux-tools*?

I have been using a modified version (done internally at Uber) provided in
this patch:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2015/04/msg00013.html

This patch doesn't apply properly to newer Kernel releases.

Since this is a common requirement, I am wondering if there is an alternate
solution that does not require the above mentioned patch.

For the Debian shipped Linux kernel, there's the linux-perf package
which will pull in the proper linux-perf-$VERSION of the package for
the respective Linux kenrel.

Hi Ritesh,

Thank you for your prompt response. I am building kernel 5.10, for Buster
which is not the default version that is shipped.
If you can send me pointers on how to build the linux-perf package that is
part of the official distribution that would be great.

There's the fine documentation, Debian Kernel Handbook.
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-kernel-handbook/

It is also available as a package in Debian. Have a look at it. And
like any other package, feel free to enhance it by sending bug reports,
bug fixes and new docuemnt sections.
