After some consultation on #debian-next IRC channel, tried to see why
SecBoot CPU1 Status: 0x3040001, CPU2 Status: 0x0
message appears.

Powered off the laptop (again), this time entered BIOS, checked secure 
boot settings. It was disabled as suspected. Didn't change anything in 
BIOS, but after reboot firmware loaded and wifi works.

Not sure what happened here - made several reboots before sending this 
report.

Is this still happening with 5.10 linux and newer iwlwifi version >=
202011?

  Using 5.10.0-1-amd64 and 20200918-1 till now. Just upgraded to 
20201218-2, but didn't reboot yet.
  Issue never repeated since I sent this report.

thanks for patience and prompt report, this looks like to be fixed in
iwlwifi then.

I'll leave it open for a week and will then proceed to close unless
repeatable.
