Note sure whether this is a bug related to rtkit-daemon. I've found
the possible culprit (which also explains that I had no problems
before): xpdf takes several GB, even though the PDF file is rather
simple (26 slides, no images...). The consequence is that the machine
is swapping. I suspect a memory leak, possibly when the PDF file is
reloaded (I've been writing slides, thus with many reloads...).
