That was indeed the problem. Editing 
`/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions` and 
`/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/cryptroot` to ignore the missing file 
`/dev/mapper/sda3_crypt` and running `sudo update-initramfs -u` fixed 
the issue for me.

     $ ls -l /dev/mapper/sda3_crypt
     lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 Dez 30 13:42 /dev/mapper/sda3_crypt ->
../dm-0

Should this bug report be merged with #917124?
