Hi I experienced the same issue with Debian Stretch on an old Toshiba Satellite A200 having the Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller. A workaround is to disable the SVIDEO connector (sources [1][2]) by adding "video=SVIDEO-1:d" to to the kernel boot parameters. Also, it seems that removing xserver-xorg-video-intel (which anyway shouldn't be needed for the GM965/GL960 chipset) could help.
