Thanks so much for picking up these old and unnecessary bugs.

I run stable everywhere and may not have an easy easy to way to test
your fixes, but I applied the patches from my comments manually to
every update for the past four years (probably six or seven times, per
machine). I am confident they do the right thing. They are well
tested!
