Dear Maintainer,
When the cursor is turned off in the console, using
$ printf '\e[?17;0;0c'
the cursor still blinks, although not visibly. This may not seem like a
serious bug, or even a bug at all, but it becomes noticeable and
annoying when watching a video with mplayer using the fbdev2 output. For
example,
$ printf '\e[?17;0;0c'; mplayer -quiet -vo fbdev2 -vf scale=<SCREEN_DIMENSIONS> <VIDEO>; tput reset
The cursor is visible as a flickering black rectangle, making it very
annoying to watch videos like this.
Note that this bug is not present in linux-image-5.7.0-3-amd64, and when
I boot onto that kernel, I cannot reproduce the bug. When watching
videos as I have described, while booted onto the old kernel, the cursor
is not visible at all (although, it is of course if you omit the initial
'printf').
And before you ask "why don't you just use Totem or VLC or something?"
it's because I prefer to work in the console. :-)
Thanks,
Asher
