I performed other tests and I noticed that when I switch to the ati graphic cards the glitches/artifacts go away but they come back when I switch back to the intel integrated card, which make me suspect the culprit might be the i915 driver. Another strange thing I noticed, which is 100% reproducible, is that when the system wakes up after being in suspended mode, the glitches/artifacts are gone.
