Hi,

FYI based on the documentation I could find, you are correct in
assuming that the first of those three fields should be a POINT size,
and not a pixel size. See:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glyph_Bitmap_Distribution_Format#Example

In my current attempt to modify my system's cursors (decompiling
"cursor.pcf.gz", making a slight change and re-compiling), bdftopcf
did not complain if I replaced "-1" with "16" (my best guess).

Note that I also had to edit the COPYRIGHT line which had unescaped
double quotes around "glyphs" in this example, which I had to remove
by hand in the BDF file in order for bdftopcf's resulting binary to
include the full statement.

I hope this helps!

It seems upstream already fixed this in version 1.05.

Could you please check if this issue is fixed in most recent Debian
package?

Actually I'm in Jessie and that means 1.04-4...

Yeah, sorry I evidently forgot to check and consult this bugreport :-(

Please try install and test the package from Stretch. It should work
fine across those distro releases, I believe - of if not, then please
tell me, and I will recompile for you to test.

So 1.05-1... Yup, it installs fine.

I can confirm that both bugs have been fixed in that new version.
"SIZE -1 78 78" became "SIZE 31 78 78" and the double quotes around
"glyphs" in the COPYRIGHT line have been doubled, which is recognized
as valid as-is by bdftopcf. :)
