Package: dolphin Version: 4:25.04.3-1+b2 Severity: important After 6.20.0-1 upgrade this morning, In many location I cannot enter directory. If I click on folder, it does open and the path in the upper of the window keeps adding directory name Eg : I have a directrory /multimedia that contains sevral subdirectorries like Music, Video, Photos, Books If I click on books, Id does not hoppen it but adds it in path. And if I click several time the path becomes /multimedia/books/books/books... That of course does not exist. Maybe just a rebuild is needed but this is really annoying -- System Information: Debian Release: forky/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.12.58 (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_OOT_MODULE Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages dolphin depends on: ii baloo6 6.20.0-1 ii dolphin-data 4:25.04.3-1 ii kio6 6.20.0-1 ii libc6 2.42-2 ii libdolphinvcs6 4:25.04.3-1+b2 ii libkf6baloo6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6baloowidgets6 4:25.04.0-1 ii libkf6bookmarks6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6bookmarkswidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6codecs6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6colorscheme6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6completion6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6configcore6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6configgui6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6configwidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6coreaddons6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6crash6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6dbusaddons6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6filemetadata3 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6guiaddons6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6i18n6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6iconthemes6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6jobwidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6kcmutils6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6kcmutilscore6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6kiocore6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6kiofilewidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6kiogui6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6kiowidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6newstuffwidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6notifications6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6parts6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6service-bin 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6service6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6solid6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6textwidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6userfeedbackcore6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6userfeedbackwidgets6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6widgetsaddons6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6windowsystem6 6.20.0-1 ii libkf6xmlgui6 6.20.0-1 ii libpackagekitqt6-2 1.1.4-1 ii libphonon4qt6-4t64 4:4.12.0-5 ii libqt6core6t64 [qt6-base-private-abi] 6.9.2+dfsg-3 ii libqt6dbus6 6.9.2+dfsg-3 ii libqt6gui6 6.9.2+dfsg-3 ii libqt6widgets6 6.9.2+dfsg-3 ii libqt6xml6 6.9.2+dfsg-3 ii libstdc++6 15.2.0-8 ii phonon4qt6 4:4.12.0-5 Versions of packages dolphin recommends: ii dolphin-doc 4:25.04.3-1 ii dolphin-plugins 4:25.04.0-1 ii ffmpegthumbs 4:25.04.0-2 ii kdegraphics-thumbnailers 4:25.04.0-1 ii kdenetwork-filesharing 4:25.04.3-1+b1 ii kimageformat6-plugins 6.20.0-1 ii kio-extras 4:25.04.3-3 ii qt6-image-formats-plugins 6.9.2-3 Versions of packages dolphin suggests: pn kio-admin <none> -- no debconf information

Hi Eric I'm quite sure that it is this extra \u0000 that is the cause of these troubles. I couldn't quickly reproduce it myself, but it could be some path handling changes suddenly the null termination is included, and it might only show up on some systems/usecases. Given you have a long history in Debian, I hope you are a bit confident in the console. If you do the following: QT_FATAL_WARNINGS=1 gdb dolphin Then dolphin should crash when it gets to printing "Broken filename passed to function" Then you should be able to do "bt" in the gdb command line and provide a backtrace. Then we might get an idea where the string gets passed from (and thus where it gets wrongly created) /Sune -- I didn’t stop pretending when I became an adult, it’s just that when I was a kid I was pretending that I fit into the rules and structures of this world. I think you need to install libkf6kiocore6-dbgsym from the debug archive deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-debug/ unstable-debug main and that at least should give better symbols from the backtrace you have. The backtraces does point to kiocore, which is very much where my initial suspicion of which part of frameworks would be responsible for this. /Sune -- I didn’t stop pretending when I became an adult, it’s just that when I was a kid I was pretending that I fit into the rules and structures of this world. I think that is the issue, but not where it originates from. But we basically need to chase that path up the callstack to figure out where it is introduced. I think kio6-dbgsym is also needed. And maybe it originates from a different thread, so in gdb, thread apply all bt might also give a bit of insight, if payload around frame 16. /Sune -- I didn’t stop pretending when I became an adult, it’s just that when I was a kid I was pretending that I fit into the rules and structures of this world. Dear Maintainer,
I noticed this issue after today's update., I noticed this issue following today's update.
This probably also happened after the 11/17/2025 update, because when I rolled back the snapshot version to 17, the error still occurred,

The only thing that works is using the space group in the side panel.
Moreover, when using a device group, the icon of lack of permissions to the directory is constantly displayed in the address bar.

If I click on folder, it does open and the path in the upper of > the window keeps adding directory name Hi, thanks for reporting and all the follow-up analysis. The most probable root cause is that I didn’t correctly refresh a patch we carry in solid to work around some limitation in mount points handling. See [1] and [2] and the bug it was fixing at [3]. [1] https://salsa.debian.org/qt-kde-team/kde/kf6-solid/-/blob/ a5f5b880acd8c753cd43c90dd36e3c88a8647b34/debian/patches/ use_shortest_filepath.diff [2] https://salsa.debian.org/qt-kde-team/kde/kf6-solid/-/commit/ a5f5b880acd8c753cd43c90dd36e3c88a8647b34#35d7f1af8d1b12946f1cf810ae4772a794f843ae [3] https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=762950 I discussed it with the team and our Kubuntu kontact and since the patch is disabled in Kubuntu the best course of action maybe to simply drop the patch at this stage. Sorry for the inconvenience. If Qt/KDE Team participants from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away have ideas on this, you’re input is welcome. -- Aurélien
