I haven't been able to reproduce this so far no matter what I try. Are
you building in a clean environment (e.g. sbuild)?

If there's a real problem with the classifier, the best fix would be to
patch pyproject.toml rather than removing it. But
https://validate-pyproject.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api/validate_pyproject.formats.html
refers to https://pypi.org/classifiers/, and "License :: OSI Approved ::
CMU License (MIT-CMU)" is listed there, so I don't see what the problem
would be ... it feels more like a bug in your installed setuptools
version.

There’s an update required, that’s a new trove classifier.

I've uploaded trove-classifiers 2025.1.15.22-1 to fix that. But this implies that Matthias is building in an unclean environment with python3-trove-classifiers installed. Building the package with sbuild instead should avoid the problem. -- Colin Watson (he/him) [cjwatson@debian.org]
