| Subject | Bug#1095296: heimdal-clients: invoking klist.heimdal etc doesn't work |
| Message-ID | <KdciB-eRBb-1@gated-at.bofh.it> |
Package: heimdal-clients Version: 7.8.git20221117.28daf24+dfsg-2 $ /usr/bin/klist.heimdal klist, list klist kgetcred kgetcred kswitch, switch kswitch kvno kvno copy_cred_cache copy_cred_cache help, ? help [command] The problem here is that kuser/heimtools.c:command_alias() doesn't know to strip the .heimdal suffix. (Neither does setprogname() in libroken, which only strips the .exe suffix if present.) Invoking klist.heimdal is occasionally useful when /usr/bin/klist points to klist.mit (OK, I backported krb5-user from trixie) and one wants to use Heimdal-specific features like the -T flag.

FYI: I created a thread on debian-devel on this issue: https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2025/02/msg00100.html In particularly, see the last part of https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2025/02/msg00107.html I responded to this, but my response hasn't hit the archives yet. -- Brian May @ Debian

If one wants to force people to use "exec -a klist klist.heimdal" one should probably document this somewhere (in the man page). Perhaps more importantly, not all shells support the -a option to exec. (Neither dash nor tcsh seem to; bash does, I haven't checked ksh or zsh.) I can contribute a patch to the command_alias() function if you wish.

Ideally something like this wwould go upstream, not in Debian. But I am guessing that any changes here would have to be Debian specific for the names chosen by the Debian package. I wOuld be willing to have a look at any such patch if you are happy to contribute it. -- Brian May @ Debian
