X-Debbugs-Cc: 1007297@bugs.debian.org, Matthew Vernon <matthew@debian.org>, Package Salvaging Team <team+salvage@tracker.debian.org>

Hi,

usually I'm filing Intend To Salvage bugs in accordance with the
Package Salvaging procedure outlined in the Developers Reference[1].
However, in case of your package debroster, the usually criterions
are not really fulfilled.

Despite this I think it makes perfectly sense to maintain debroster on
Salsa in the debian/ team to provide easy access for people who might
want to run a booth at some exposition and would like to add some
feature to this package. For this purpose I've created a Git repository
on Salsa.[2] It contains the fix for bug #1007297 and makes the
package compliant to the latest packaging standards.

Please let me know if you want me to do a team upload of the content of
the repository or if you prefer to upload yourself. I will wait 21 days
as usual in the package salvaging process to give you sufficient time to
respond to this bug report. If I do not hear from you in this time
frame I will assume agreement and upload to delayed=10 (and when doing
so I will ping you again).

Your package was highlighted in the Bug of the Day[3] initiative, which
aims to introduce newcomers to manageable tasks and guide them through
the workflow to solve them. The focus of this initiative is on migrating
packages to Salsa, as it's a great way to familiarize newcomers with a
consistent Git-based workflow.

Kind regards
    Andreas.

I have mixed views on this. In general, I'm not keen on 3.0 packaging
formats, since I think trying to bundle a mini VCS into a source package
is a mistake, and keeping the git repository as the preferred source for
modification is better (which in turn is better done with the older
source format, until someone actually implements 3.0(git) or similar).

I'd be happy with the changes were the package format left as 1.0. Would
that be acceptable?

Regards,

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

I keep bug #1007297 in CC since this is rather relevant in this
bug report.

I *personally* think this argument does not apply to 3.0 (native) since
you will not apply patches to native packages but IMHO some random bug
in BTS is the wrong place to discuss this.

My main point was the migration to Salsa. Even if I disagree about the
source format I perfectly accept it since you are the maintainer of this
package and I do not intend to question this. If you want to upload
yourself or want me to upload with the following change:

my main point (maintenance on Salsa) is solved. In any case I'd
recommend adding some tags that fit to bug #1007297 to inform others
about your opinion. I've seen NMUs "fixing" the source format only.

Thank you for your quick response in any case
    Andreas.

Ack, and yes I should wontfix the other bug or similar.

Hm, you've lost my git history (which OK, I hadn't published, but I'd
still like to keep). Can we try and produce a branch which contains my
history and your changes?

Matthew

Sounds good.

You might like to publish your Git history somewhere and I'd volunteer
to apply my changes on top of it. The main point of my effort to move
to Salsa what is not yet there is to make sure Git history is not lost.
So I'd happily care for this if you publish your repository somewhere.
As long as a package does not have any Vcs fields set the best guess is
what `gbp import-dscs` can create - but I love to do better.

Kind regards
   Andreas.

OK, I've pushed my dgit/sid branch to salsa - it contains my
reconstruction of my older versions, your changes, and a couple of other
fixes on top of them. I've built a 1.19 on the basis of the tip of that
branch.

If you're OK with this, I propose to make dgit/sid the default branch
for the repo (and remove your master branch), and do an upload on that
basis.

Seem good?

Regards,

Matthew

Now done. Thanks for all the packaging work you did here, and your
