Source: rsyslog Version: 8.2408.0-2 Severity: wishlist Please ship "recover_qi.pl" anywhere in the package. "recover_qi.pl" is a maintenance utility to repair on-disk queue index: https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog/blob/master/tools/recover_qi.pl Its use might be necessary to flush disk queue after unclean shutdown. It would be very convenient if this utility will be shipped with the package to spare users from trip to upstream repository. Thanks. Yes it works, and I had to use it recently to flush over hundred gigs of on-disk logs to log server. It was crucial and necessary. (It is like fsck utility.) > I'm happy to ship it in Debian if it's accompanied with an autopkgtest. > I won't be writing this autopkgtest though, so will rely on your help. I'm not doing autopkgtrest for it. It would be overkill and I have no capacity. Such things should be tested upstream anyway. Shipping small rarely used script does not require autopkgtest. Just please ship this useful maintenance utility without which rsyslog may not be repaired when it stops forwarding accumulated logs. There is no risk. (Why do I even have to convince after demonstrating the exact situation when it is required?) -- Best wishes, Dmitry Smirnov GPG key : 4096R/52B6BBD953968D1B --- Trying to achieve freedom through the political process is like a slave letting his owner decide what means of escape are allowed. -- Larken Rose

Having this useful and necessary (although rarely needed) utility would be advantageous to users. It is upstream's responsibility to test and maintain it properly, not ours. Please reconsider your decision and make a trivial change to provide this utility. (Providing autopkgtest for this utility is a far from trivial effort.) -- Kind regards, Dmitry Smirnov GPG key : 4096R/52B6BBD953968D1B --- Power concedes nothing without a demand.
