Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for apt-listchanges. Russ Allbery has been
handling this for me but has recently indicated that he no longer has
the bandwidth to continue doing so.

 * Package name     : apt-listchanges
   Version          : 4.5
   Upstream contact : N/A
 * URL              : N/A
 * License          : GPL-2+
 * Vcs              : https://salsa.debian.org/debian/apt-listchanges/
   Section          : utils

The source builds the following binary packages:

  apt-listchanges - package change history notification tool

To access further information about this package, please visit the following URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/apt-listchanges/

Alternatively, you can download the package with 'dget' using this command:

  dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/a/apt-listchanges/apt-listchanges_4.5.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

apt-listchanges (4.5) experimental; urgency=medium

  * If the user has the `confirm` feature enabled and aborts the upgrade,
    the changes they were shown should be shown to them again when they
    rerun the upgrade. This restores the previous behavior, which was
    unintentionally changed in version 4.3.
  * Special-case handling of changelogs for `linux-image-*` packages to
    prevent us from displaying changelog entries we shouldn't, by trusting
    the version number sequencing in those changelogs.
    (Closes: #1055780)
  * Display binary NMU changelog entries. (Closes: #1063677)
  * Document the systemd timer and service in the man page, and reference
    the man page from the systemd unit files so it is displayed when
    someone does `systemctl help apt-listchanges.timer` or `systemctl help
    apt-listchanges.service`.
  * Update the man page to make it clear that `--which=news` is only the
    default when running as an APT plugin; otherwise the default is
    `--which=both`. (Closes: #1052514)
  * Updated program translations: Brazilian Portuguese courtesy of Carlos
    Henrique Lima Melara, Catalan courtesy of Carles Pina i Estany, Czech
    courtesy of Miroslav Kure, Dutch courtesy of Frans Spiesschaert,
    French courtesy of Jean-Pierre Giraud.

hi Jonathan,

took a look at apt-listchanges and some minor issues came up:

* copyright: missing copyright holders for multiple translations and
  documentation files
* control: X-Python3-Version specifies a Python version last seen in
  buster and is probably redundant
* tests: consider adding an autopkgtest ('Testsuite:
  autopkgtest-pkg-pybuild' in d/control is all it takes!)

Other than that, things look fine to me.

Your RFS mail is tagged ITA, but the maintainer change seems to have
been dealt with many revision ago.

Any particular reason for continuing to upload to experimental only,
now that version 4.x has been out for about a year with nothing major
reported in the bug tracker?

Please remove the moreinfo tag (and CC me) once you have an updated
package ready.

Hello,

imho 1055780 is a very major issue. (The new upload is supposed to
handle that.)

Not really, only seems to be mentioned in an example at [1].

It automagically runs the same tests pybuild runs on package build in
an autopkgtest context; see docs at [2] and CI results at [3].

Would somebody who has access to edit https://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control
please add documentation for the `-1` argument.

Thank you.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had not seen that before. And it is useful
there.

However, that page is entitled, "How to report a bug in Debian using
reportbug". It would be valuable to document it on https://www.debian.org/
Bugs/server-control entitled "Introduction to the bug control and manipulation
mailserver" as users are unlikely to be searching for information about how to
manipulate an existing bug on a page with instructions on how to report a new
bug.

The bug control mailserver is control@bugs.debian.org, for which -1
doesn't apply unless you've used `clone`.

The initial population of -1 only applies to the Control: pseudoheader,
and that pseudoheader is documented here: https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting#control

It seems reasonable to
https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#followup to
https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting#control (and the other
pseudoheaders that are valid for follow up messages), but that
documentation doesn't belong in the server-control documentation.

I don't think there's a reliable way to determine how many users use
this configuration. FWIW, I use it on all my machines since the
inception of apt-listchanges (debchanges).
