SubjectBug#1088883: konsole: Compose key not working on wayland (and repeat key neither)
Message-ID<JPfKG-dekh-23@gated-at.bofh.it>
Package: konsole
Version: 4:24.08.0-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

In Konsole (+ gnome-terminal, sakura, kitty),
but not xterm, terminology, emacs+vterm (I imagine XWayland ones ?)
the "compose touch" is not recognized at all.

The compose touch is configured in "key association" ("Associations de touches"
in French) in the KDE Keyboard settings (bind to my Ctrl-right. I try to change
the associated key, without success. I also try to reset (no keyboard layout
activated), without success then to activate again the French Layout and
reconfiguration of option, without success)

ctrlswap option (of Ctrl Position) is configured at the same place and works
perfectly (before (working), and after the reset (not working :-) ) and
reconfiguration in the settings (working)).

The bug seems related to KDE plasma_wayland only.

FYI, I just tried using Compose key in Konsole, and it works for me.

The way it's set for me is:

*System Settings > Keyboard > Key Bindings > *
*Position of Compose Key > Menu*

That makes my right Compose key (which KDE treats as Menu key)
work correctly.

Doing something like Compose + o + o produces a degree sign:
°

I'm also using Wayland session, konsole 24.08.0, Plasma 6.x.

Regards,
Shmerl.

I'm experiencing the same symptoms (compose key not working, key repeat
not working). I don't think this is a konsole bug, as it seems to
affect all Wayland apps (konsole, Firefox, Thunderbird, Emacs pgtk in
Wayland). As far as I can tell all X apps running in xwayland work fine
(xterm, Emacs pgtk in X). I have a US keyboard, with compose key set to
right alt. I too am running KDE plasma in wayland (kwin_wayland). When
I press right alt, wev reports Multi_key as expected.

I tried upgrading the following from testing to unstable:

   kdecoration 4:6.2.3-1 to 4:6.2.4-1
   kwin 4:6.2.3-1 to 4:6.2.4-1
   plasma-activities 6.2.3-2 to 6.2.4-2

but that did not help (same problem).

I figured out that disabling the "IBus Wayland" virtual keyboard fixed
the compose key and key repeat in Wayland apps:

   1. run 'kcmshell6 kcm_virtualkeyboard'
   2. select None
   3. click Apply

However, I want both IBus and the compose key enabled. Back to
troubleshooting...
