Source: texworks Version: 0.6.8-3 Severity: important X-Debbugs-CC: hille42@web.de As the maintainer of Debian's poppler source package, I would like to drop poppler's Qt6 packages on i386. This would allow Debian's and Ubuntu's poppler packaging to be in sync. Ubuntu has dropped i386 support except for enablement of games and similar legacy apps but none of those apps need Qt6. Based on debian-devel discussion in June, I expect Debian to eventually take a similar approach to i386. texworks is the only package that uses poppler's Qt6 in Debian. Please let me know if it's ok with you if texworks is no longer built for i386 in Debian. Thank you, Jeremy Bícha

Especially I expect Okular, KDE's document viewer to switch over in beginning of march, and I don't expect us to drop that yet. /Sune -- I didn’t stop pretending when I became an adult, it’s just that when I was a kid I was pretending that I fit into the rules and structures of this world. And now that I’m an adult, I pretend that those rules and structures exist. - zefrank

I do not see any need for those apps to built on i386 since i386 is not intended to be a full, directly installable desktop architecture in the next stable Debian release. I do not see any usecase for okular i386 to be available on an amd64 system. Please read https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2023/12/msg00003.html if you have not already. Thank you, Jeremy Bícha

Then I think you should drop anything except poppler-utils and libpoppler141 at once rather than trying to slice it like this. I see just as much need for poppler-qt6 as I do for poppler-glib and poppler- qt5. /Sune -- I didn’t stop pretending when I became an adult, it’s just that when I was a kid I was pretending that I fit into the rules and structures of this world. My plan is to first get a newer poppler from Experimental into Unstable. After that poppler transition completes, then I can stop building poppler qt6 on i386 and ask the ftpmasters to remove poppler qt6 on i386 and texworks on i386. I don't think there is anything we need to do to the texworks packaging; texworks will just be in depwait status on i386. Thank you, Jeremy Bícha
