With the latest version, text searching (Ctrl-F) is very slow.

For instance, on a PDF document with 3952 pages, with a word
that has no occurrences:
  * xpdf 3.04+git20220601-1 takes 8 seconds on an old machine;
  * xpdf 3.04+git20231213-1 takes 110 seconds on a new machine.
