Package: lists.debian.org Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-Cc: bap@debian.org, rbl@debian.org, bremner@debian.org, gniibe@fsij.org, abdelhakim@qbaich.com, evo@debian.org, bnewbold@robocracy.org, dai@debian.org, amoebae@gmail.com, nick@nickg.me.uk, tommi.hoynalanmaa@iki.fi, vagrant@debian.org, debian@alteholz.de, sho@debian.org This is a request for a new mailing list in Debian. Name: debian-scheme (Guidelines say it should be short, otherwise debian-scheme-dream-team would have been fun.) Rationale: Scheme has been a very fragmented programming language in the past, requiring little coordination between packages, but the recent R6RS and R7RS revisions of the language bring a standard library system and it is therefore valuable to have a place in Debian where we can discuss how to implement these standards in a way that e.g. all implementations can use installed libraries. We're also starting up a packaging team, so this will serve as a team list akin to debian-hams. Short description: Scheme packaging in Debian Long description: Discussion about packaging Scheme implementations, libraries and programs in Debian. Standardization of packaging, team maintenance, and other packaging-related discussions. Category: Developers Subscription Policy: open Post Policy: open Web archive: yes People who are supportive of this request are asked to please send an email to this bug report to show their interest. (I have Cc:d a few maintainers of Scheme packages who could be interested). Thank you for your consideration!

Despite my packaging of a bunch of guile packages in the last couple years, it is mostly in order to package "guix" for Debian (RFP/ITP #850644). I'm not particularly savvy with scheme... although more clarity and help in how to properly package scheme would be great! So I'd definitely be open to signing up for such a mailing list, though if it turned into a firehose of success, I might have a hard time keeping up. :) live well, vagrant

Looks like my email address might have been slightly off, but for the record, I'd have been fine with it too. (Thanks to Vagrant for pointing this out to me.) I support this! In particular it would be helpful to coordinate work on dependent packages like 'slib', which I just noticed recently changed maintainer. --bryan
