Sono curioso di vedere se i vari big dell'hosting troncheranno il 
supporto a php 5.6, a quanto pare è ancora usatissimo.

Il problema è più commerciale che tecnico. Ultimamente stiamo lavorando 
con VPS dedicate al cliente, così nel caso in cui non abbia intenzione di 
pagare per ulteriori aggiornamenti resta isolato con il suo software 
obsoleto mentre il resto del mondo va avanti. E devo dire che purtroppo 
non abbiamo ancora aggiornato una VPS, abbiamo in giro della roba con PHP 
5.2 :(

In realtà mi è capitato di mettere mano ultimamente anche a delle Lenny, 
ma fortunatamente non avevano a bordo un webserver...

Il problema aggiuntivo si ha nel momento in cui chiedono delle modifiche 
o aggiunte, e ci si ritrova a lavorare con versioni obsolete di PHP e 
Mysql, su cui probabilmente non si riesce neanche ad usare composer.

Il rovescio della medaglia è che si parte per i nuovi progetti con 
tecnologie più moderne, senza essere legati  alla macchina di hosting che 
non può essere aggiornata.

È un problema annoso che riguarda soprattutto le web agency piccole/
medie, che sfornano n progetti all'anno. Dopo qualche anno ti ritrovi a 
gestire 50 o 60 tra siti ed applicazioni web, e mantenerle tutte 
aggiornate è praticamente impossibile.
