Uhmm, probabilmente sarai già al corrente di queste informazioni, 
condivido comunque qui alcune considerazioni che uscirono in un passato 
scambio di mail:

VGA BIOS are 24 kB at 0xE0000 and system BIOS are 64 kB of course at 
0xF0000, I think both are concatenated with 40 kB of zero bytes between 
VGA and system BIOS, that gives a 128kB file with correct checksum.
I guess those 40kB may be available for DOS when using BIOS shadowing 
but are probably filled with zeros on ROM chips.
PCS286 and PCS286-S have all 128kB used in a such way, but VGA BIOS 
isn't 100% IBM compatible at BIOS level, it's missing "IBM" at offset 
0x30 and it isn't even formatted as a BIOS extension ROM, on both 286 
systems VGA BIOS and system BIOS code is mixed along those 128kB and 
nothing is free for use under DOS over 0xE0000

Grazie, di alcune cose mi ero reso conto, mentre altre non le sapevo 
proprio. Il fatto che il BIOS video non sia interamente compatibile con 
le specifiche VGA potrebbe essere la causa dell'errore.

Appena ho un attimo in più di tempo provo a investigare.

Ha funzionato e in effetti ora ho molti meno problemi di prima.
Uno strano però persiste, se imposto il bus a 33MHz per un DX2 66 AMD ed 
uso una option rom LBA enhancer (tipo XT-IDE), la macchina ha 
prestazioni generali simili ad un 386 (misurate con NSSI, sui 6K dhrystone).
Con un Intel DX2 50 (bus a 25MHz), sempre con option ROM, prestazioni 
normali (oltre 25K dhrystone). Senza Option ROM ho prestazioni normali 
su entrambe le CPU.
Prima dell'aggiornmento del BIOS avevo lo stesso problema anche con il 
bus a 25MHz.
