I don't see an obvious candidate in the newsgroups list.
It is not trivial to start a new group; are you sure that there
are enough potential users to justify the effort?

3d printing is really popular, so yes I'm pretty sure there is

Then you should research how to start a new Usenet group.
As I told you, it is not a trivial task.

That's an F.

The information is out there. If you want to know how to create
a new Usenet newsgroup, you must improve your researching.

There is a very old saying on Usenet: "If you give a man a fish, you
feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for life."

Ask Google, Wikipedia, whatever, or even ChatGPT. Be sure to keep
your critical faculties engaged, there is misinformation out there as
well as the good stuff.

This is Usenet, not Reddit.

Be glad it isn't as simple as pressing a button. If it were, we'd have
millions of newsgroups, all of them useless.

First, assemble a group of supporters who also want to see the group
created and will use it if that does come to pass. A new newsgroup
with only the proponent in it is a very lonely place.

The free.* hierarchy will be the simplest method, to my understanding.
Ultimately, though, it would be Ray's decision to carry the group even if
somebody did issue the command to create it. I've investigated how to do
so but, frankly, the info I found was confusing and conflicting... Good
luck!
