Details were released yesterday by David Levy and Sir Clive Sinclair of a new initiative to encourage coding.
There will be competitions aimed at Schools and winning entries will be published on the ZX Spectrum Vega.

The free coding system can be downloaded now. It's a slick program called BASin by Paul Dunn.

One if the things or maybe more than one, of doing coding I think is
thinking problems out so you know what you need to know to solve them, and
also patience I'd imagine.
So is this going to be the old building blocks type of coding or some real
language.

This is BASin the Sinclair BASIC development environment which Paul Dunn has been discussing in this newsgroup for 12 years or more. I'm a big fan of the system and plug it on my website.

It has the advantage of typing keywords one letter at a time which is the only approach to inflict on youngsters these days.

There are 10 BASIC lessons on the website and three programming books available as pdf files or in printed form.

Sir Clive Sinclair only launched the project two days ago.

Next month sees the launch of "Arcade Game Designer" by Jonathan Cauldwell another comp.sys.sinclair poster from the turn of the century.

As you say, good planning reduces development time enormously, but it is a lesson often learned the hard way.

There is a lot more planned.

I tried to run BASin for Beginners 1.0 from
http://everychildcancode.org/ in Ubuntu 14.04 using Wine, but it crashed
on start. Loading detailed information about this error doesn't finish.
Installation went fine and the help-files work. Is it possible to run
this version of BASin in Wine?

It doesn't say which system requirements this version of BASin has (i.e.
which is the lowest and highest version of Windows it works on).

The latest issue is very fresh and I expect things will iron out.
I couldn't get it to load in Windows 8 but I have it on Windows 7.
On both attempts I got a virus warning as it was unknown but ignored it.

I have an old version of BASin on Vista but want to keep that as it has some nice technical views.
BASin for beginners has been customised for the PEGI rating of the ZX Vega so is simplified for 7 year-olds and the exercises are well written. I expect that the three manuals will be too.

Jonathan Cauldwell's AGD is out in revised form in October.
Paul Jenkinson the prolific magazine publisher is a fan and has some video tutorials on his Random Kak page.
