It has been a Good week for the ZX Vega team. They had their launch party for backers at the beginning of the week. Later a limited number of bloggers and journalists were invited to watch the first units roll off the assembly line at Nottingham and try them out. Best report I've found is the one in this link from 80snostalgia.com http://www.80snostalgia.com/zx-vega-hands-on/ It explains how the menus and keyboard comes together. It is creating quite a stir. -- G.

Yes I'm impressed. Each of the thousand games has a definition file that maps the normal keys to those on the Vega. So Q, A, O, P are mapped to the D-Pad for instance. Adventures use the alpha keys which are grouped in fours and shifted with the right arrow. People found it fast. You can create definition files for your own programs or those downloaded from WoS and send them in so I imagine quite a community effort will be born. The thousand bundled games are currently being assessed by the board of film censors and once approved will be revealed and the machines will ship. -- G.

So they actually sorted licensing and royalties for the 1000 games? -- Yup.

I haven't been following too closely but I expect many copyright holders will go along with the default Great Ormond Street Hospital arrangement. The Vega team did say that they had got some big licence holders on board at the last minute so it will be an interesting week. They can't print the box labels or back labels until they get that classification number.

Back in 1984 the British Board of Film Censors gave the ZX Spectrum game "Jack The Ripper" an 18 certificate http://www.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/games-inlays/j/JackTheRipper.jpg Nowadays the Pan European Game Information body (PEGI) need to approve the thousand bundled games for the Vega to receive a certificate. http://www.pegi.info/en/index/ -- G.

Or rated at all, in fact. Pretty sure the Amiga version had a BBFC 18 rating. Can't find any images proving that, but I did find this: http://s.emuparadise.org/DC-PAL-Covers/Mortal%20Kombat%20Gold%20PAL%20DC-back.jpg It's a later edition admittedly, but it has the rating. The news today is that they have received a PEGI rating so the ZX Vega machine and software is suitable for any of us aged 7 and over. Packaging can be fully printed and production samples tested. So expect delivery mid-August. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sinclair-zx-spectrum-vega#activity That's about the same delay as the Recreated ZX Spectrum from Elite which ships August 13th according to Amazon. -- G.

The second batch has gone out this weekend. Some have arrived. There have been some inflated prices on eBay and SMS Electronics have revived their eBay account to sell second batch Vegas at £99.99 Buy-It-Now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sinclair-ZX-Spectrum-Vega-Limited-Edition-Second-Production-Run-/221852976672?hash=item33a777c620 Feedback is from a year ago when they were buying a lot of glue :-) -- G.

There's a good chance there will be three to four thousand of them people's homes by the end of the year, all equipped with ULAplus. As you can imagine I'm very happy about that.
