I think we all knew this day was to come sooner for him than for most, but
still utterly gutted.

Poor chap. Hope his final months were full of the happy nonsensical
delerium we knew him for and not the terrible headaches and pain we
didn't.

Sleep well, Ferg.

Well, I had no idea, I guess its not the sort of thing you shout about is
it. I've had many exchanges of a rather daft nature over the years, wondered
where he was.

Sad now, but well, maybe if it could not be cured this is a good outcome
for him.

Very sad to hear this news. I lost track of him when he did the mass
unfriend on Facebook. He may have been utterly clueless about the
speccy, but he never harmed a soul. And from my perspective, 31 seems so
terribly young. CSS has lost another character. Rest in peace old specchum.

By the looks of it his old facebook account was deleted and a new one was
set up in July. Suspect a family member had taken control of it due to his
declining health.

I saw this on Twitter (as you know). Of course, we used to just take
the piss out of him, and as good-natured as it was, I think it might
have been different if we'd known (well, I didn't know, perhaps others
here did)

As much as he wound me up in the past, I was saddened to hear this
news, especially so as he was younger than me.

[I've added The ADS to this because IIRC he used to post there too. I
haven't been in for ages so the place might be deserted bar

be looking in there]

Totally stunned.

Not sure if "thanks for posting this to the ADS" is quite the most
appropriate thing to say considering the nature of what you're
saying, but... yeah... thanks.

I befriended him on Facebook a couple of years ago and his messages
got steadily worse as he was unable to type without shaking. He had to
have someone do it for him later on and unfortunatey I haven't heard
from him in a few months. Bad times. Bless him. He was always trying
to get laid via his FB statuses....I hope he's getting it all where he
is now!

He used to post on alt.fan.pratchett as well, so I've added them to
this reply. I remember that he first appeared on c.s.s. and on a.f.p.
(simultaneously) while there was some kind of interaction going on
between the two groups, and at first there were at least a few on each
group who assumed that he'd crossed over from the other one.

(I don't know if he ever posted to such Red Dwarf NGs as there are,
but given that his chosen nick is known to have been taken from that
show's protagonist Dave Lister, this is very likely; sadly I don't
know the names of whatever groups he may have frequented.)

So sad when this happens. I remember hearing somewhere that Lister
had some kind of physical health problem, but I never knew it was this
bad.

I remember seeing Lister at the 2008 Discworld Convention. He wasn't
really in any fit state to interact with anyone, unfortunately. I had
had no idea how severely disabled he was until then.

RIP Lister, hope you're walking and talking and playing the drums up
there!

I can't really think of anything to add that hasn't been said already. I
have fond memories of our inane banter, our almost-meeting and his awful
shirts. This is a terribly sad thing indeed and wherever he is, I hope he's
at peace.

RIP Lister.

Awful news... I remember having some daft conversations with him on #speccy years and years ago - despite the fact he never owned one. He was the butt of a few c.s.s. jokes for a while (due to that shirt) but always seemed to take it with good humour.

#speccy does still exist y'know...
ok, we moved due to the old astrolink network imploding, but we're still
out there...

usual key, new network, astrolink is no more, now we're on irc.coldfront.net
(you know the key... screen ram on a speccy)
