#38290 — brcmf errors

FromAdrian <bulleid@ku.gro.lioff>

I'm running a Pi3B under Buster (yes, I know, out of the ark).

4 days ago, for no obvious reason, it started generating the following
error, every minute. Errors are being logged in the syslog file.

Jul 21 21:02:20 southwatch kernel: [10116263.760496] brcmfmac:
brcmf_escan_timeout: timer expired
Jul 21 21:02:20 southwatch kernel: [10116266.320604] brcmfmac:
brcmf_sdio_busrxdctl: resumed on timeout
Jul 21 21:02:20 southwatch kernel: [10116266.321012] brcmfmac:
brcmf_sdio_checkdied: firmware trap in dongle
Jul 21 21:02:20 southwatch kernel: [10116266.321023] brcmfmac:
brcmf_notify_escan_complete: Scan abort failed

The Pi is using Ethernet rather than WiFi for networking, and there
hasn't been any obvious change in performance since this started. There
have been no updates done recently.

I became aware of this as I noticed that the daily rsync size was
growing for no obvious reason.

Any thoughts ?

Adrian

Thanks.

Is that an OS upgrade or something else ?

It does raise the question, how has the firmware suddenly gone bad ?

Corrupted upgrade?

That would be the obvious answer, but to the best of my knowledge, there
haven't been any updates recently, and it has been running since late
March (120 days).

Bit rot happens. Or maybe the wifi chip has gone bad.

Hardware does age...
