In most Linices Ive played with its something like /etc/init.d/*dm where *dm is something like gdm for gnome display manager, or mdm for mint display manager, or xdm for xfce display manager etc etc. Andf of course it probably isn't linked into init.d if it doesn't start automatically anyway. Oh here is a reasonable guide http://www.bristolwatch.com/rpi/xinitrc.htm So yes, startx works, but you have to edit stuff to make sure it works the way God intended -- the biggest threat to humanity comes from socialism, which has utterly diverted our attention away from what really matters to our existential survival, to indulging in navel gazing and faux moral investigations into what the world ought to be, whilst we fail utterly to deal with what it actually is.
