It's been two years since I've submitted my "Why isn't there more activity here?" post on here. Activity in the group has pretty much stagnated since then, unfortunately. Anybody still interested in reinvigorating this newsgroup for all things classic Macs ? We could share the latest news regarding our machines on here. Tell others about what we use them for, exchanging memories of yesterday, develop new ideas and much more. In short, we could try to build a community? You know, a community driven newsgroup you can always connect to and find a few friendly like-minded people. A place that - no matter how much the world outside may suck - gives you a nice little diversion and takes you back to a time when computing was exciting and fun. What do ya'll think? Share your ideas :-)

Share your ideas :-) I still have have hopes of getting myself a working eMac. I think it will be a great machine to work on XEmacs, yet since I don't have one working right now, I'm afraid I'll have to let other people post on comp.sys.mac.vintage. Even though my Macbook Air 7,3 is considered /vintage/ by the fruit ven- dor's own support teams. How old does a Mac have to be, to be considered /vintage/ according to comp.sys.mac.vintage? -- Johann | email: invalid -> com | http://www.myrkraverk.com/blog/ I'm not from the Internet, I just work there. | via XS News https://bsky.app/profile/myrkraverk.bsky.social | for ( ;; ) _:; Federated at https://fed.brid.gy/bsky/myrkraverk.bsky.social

Apple basically classes their devices as ...
- "Vintage" when Apple stops making replacement parts,
but the device may still be repairable if the parts
are still in stock.
- "Obsolete" when there are no parts available in stock
(although some stock may still be available at
authorised repair centres).

The last few years have not been kind to it, with many users disappearing (a not insignificant number likely having died, given the general age profile of Usenet holdouts - most that are on Usenet have been here since the 90s, and many were geeks approaching middle age then, there’s a lot of very old people in the Usenet user base). > Anybody still interested in reinvigorating this newsgroup for all things > classic Macs ? Yes, absolutely, it’s why I still subscribe to and check the group. I’ve written blogs about it to try and draw attention and have told countless people on Facebook etc about it, but most nod and smile and never show. Which is a shame because, as I always say, Usenet is perfect for vintage Mac use! > We could share the latest news regarding our machines on here. Yeah, between the die-hards dieing off, the lack of easy discoverability for new users, and the absolute shit show the lack of moderation has made some groups, it's really hard to bring new blood to Usenet. Elijah ------ about to start a new thread

I still use my 2012 & 2008 MBPs once in awhile. I also have an old PB G4 in storage. :P

Share your ideas :-) I'm still using a beige G3 with OS 8.6 on a regular daily basis. Most things that don't involve the internet are so much easier on the older OS. -- ~ Liz Tuddenham ~ (Remove the ".invalid"s and add ".co.uk" to reply) www.poppyrecords.co.uk

Share your ideas :-) I regularly read this group, but don't technically own a vintage mac (well, actually, I might technically since my main machine is an Intel running Monterey). I do, however, regularly use Parallels to run earlier versions of macOS, SheepShaver to run systems 7-9, and Mini vMac to run System 6.x. Does that count?
