Has anyone gone through this process? I've got all the stuff I need (the
installer, the board-id, and the modified boot.efi. I'll certainly try
it out, but I was wondering if anyone here had done it.

There's a couple of ways of creating the install stick. The most
succinct instructions are here:

10-9-mavericks-usb-install-drive/>

or <http://tinyurl.com/ars-mavericks-stick>

The instructions for modifying the installer are here:

Yes, briefly, with one of the later betas. It worked, and worked fine.
It was annoying dedicating a drive to boot so that i could then boot
from the 10.9 drive, but it worked.

Then the PSU on the MacPro1,1 died and I got a 2012 iMac and... well,
the rest is history.

Matters in hand. He'd put matters in hand all right. If he closed his
eyes he could see the body tumbling down the steps. Had there been a
hiss of shocked breath, down in the darkness of the hall? He'd been
certain they were alone. Matters in hand! He'd tried to wash the blood
off his hands. If he could wash the blood off, he told himself, it
wouldn't have happened. He'd scrubbed and scrubbed. Scrubbed till he
screamed. --Wyrd Sisters

What's the point? Live with Lion or buy a new computer.

Whew. I'm glad I have your input. You've changed my outlook completely.
Let go or let god, right?

Asshole.
