What am I missing? There's the little "1" in a red circle, and I
cannot figure out why it's there. Can anybody help?

If it's working right, it means you have one notifications. If you open
the app and go to "show notifications" under "view," it should go away.

You've gotten an invitation, or there is a change in a calendar you're
subscribing to.

IN the upper right corner, you should see "Calendars", a plus sign annd an
inbox button with the number 1 beside it, click it to see the news.
