this isn't rocket science. in fact, it's one of the simplest things
possible.

and then *no* apps get synced.

how many times do you have to be told that?

You're lying again, so there's no need for me to enable you any
further. See you around.

it's not me who is lying.

not only did i explain how, but i gave an example of how it could be
implemented.

i also mentioned that google has cracked this nut too.

but as usual, you ignore the parts you want.

To be fair to the companies, there are some advantages to not making
the apps universal. The iPad and iPhone have different hardware,
capabilities and functionality. Making a single app for both,
especially if you want it to run "nativelY" for both, means making an
app that is more complex and larger. Making two separate apps means
you can optimize the code better for one device or the other (bearing
in mind that current hardware on both sides means supporting two or
three sets of screen resolutions, and two or three different CPUs).

The bad thing, for the consumer, here is that if both are paid apps and
the user wants it on both, they have to pay twice, which often means
more than what a single universal app would cost.

What confuses me, though, is when a single developer does one app as a
universal and another as separate. Readdle does this - Scanner Pro is
universal, PDF Expert is not.

There are three kinds of apps.

1) iPhone apps. These run on iPads, but must be scaled up using the 2X
button. These are "iPhone only" apps.

2) iPad only apps. They can only be purchased, viewed in the store, and
run on an iPad.

3) Apps that run on both iPhones and iPads. Thankfully, these are most
of the apps.

I would like to have a pref to prevent apps in category 1 from being
automatically installed on iPads.

I would not call them "iPhone Only" because they can run on the iPad.

The only way you can do that is to prevent apps that are purchased on
the iPhone or the computer from being automatically downloaded to the
iPad, and then manually select those that you want to be on the iPad.

I find quite a number of iPhone apps that are quite useful on the iPad,
not the least of which was the Apple Store app before Apple made an
iPad version of it.

the point is that they are iphone apps running in compatibility mode.

they're not ipad native and look bad on an ipad, especially when pixel
doubled.

there is also a subset of iphone only apps that can't run on an ipad
because they require hardware not found on an ipad.

They look on an iPad exactly how they look on an iPhone, if they're not
doubled.

True, but we're not talking about them. So far as I know, they won't
load onto an iPad.

If they look on an iPad exactly like they do on an iPhone, and don't
look good on the iPad that means they don't look good on the iPhone.
Even you should be able to follow that basic logic.

That makes no sense. I have plenty of video that looks fine on the 32"
TV and looks like shit on the 10' projection screen.

Then it doesn't look exactly like the 32" TV display, does it?

It is the exact same picture, blown up. Exactly like blowing up an
iPhone app to iPad size.

I didn't say anything about blowing up. I'm referring to 1X, not 2X,
which should be evident from my use of "exactly".

you can, but then you have a lot of dark space around the app. yuk.

also, that makes some apps less than ideal because you won't be able to
reach to the middle of the screen with your fingers while holding the
ipad, as you could with an iphone. think of games, where you need
fingers on both sides, for instance, to work the controls.

what should be evident is that it's a sub-par user experience.
