#117250 — OT: DeWalt

FromAlan Browne <bitbucket@blackhole.com>

SubjectOT: DeWalt
Message-ID<pO2dnVz52N7y67jGnZ2dnUU7-RPNnZ2d@giganews.com>
Needed a cordless drill.

Went to Réno-dépôt for a DeWalt. Box screamed: Made In USA.

Bought Makita: Japanese Co. Made in China.

                              Fuck Trump and his tariffs.

Got back to my house and charged it up. Realized most of my power tools
are Makita, but I do have a very nice DeWalt power driver that I bought
about 7 years ago. Nice. But last. (ie: Fuck Trump and his tariffs).

I think both co's make fine cordless tools.

My real issue is where it was made. Not buying from Trump's America.

Does that include Lowe's?

I'm aware of that. OTOH R-D's supply chain and store employees in
Canada are paid in Canada.

Lowe's investments in Canada don't affect some assembly line worker in
the US very much. Me not buying an American product does.

Not willing to let Donald Trump make my decisions for me in either
direction. I don't let him live in my head rent-free like so many
people do (both those for and against him). Trump is a pimple on the
ass of history and not much more than that.

I have a Makita, but my last drill purchase was a made in China Black &
Decker.

...and as a California resident I can’t say that I am impressed, or support
anything Trumpian, and that includes the sycophantic, Quislings he attracts.

He seems to believe in Tariffs. I believe in boycotts in that case ...

Even the arch-right Koch brothers are trying to tell Trump that tariffs
are bad for the US ... Trump's narcissism makes him pretty deaf ...

Trump believes in whatever will line his pockets. His policies scare the
shit out of me. The pressure he seems to be putting on the good guys in
the Republican party is unconscionable. I too believe in boycotts, but I
try to make sure I am not boycotting my own cause.

There are a few exceptions to that rule though.

And I wouldn't put Trump in the same category as most politicians in a
lot of other respects that matter a lot.

There are *zero* good guys in the Republican Party. Every single one of
them is supporting the treasonous money-grabbing pedophile. Every.
Single. One.

Trumpo's $50 billion in tariffs against china have already resulted in
$120 billion in retaliation ($50 billion in tariffs, and they dropped a
$70 billion agreement).

The Chinese are specifically targeting products that will damage the
Mid-West and South (trumps core) most.

Now hold on! I'd fully support Mr. Trump if only he weren't 50 years too
late. Think how great America would be if in 1966 he'd slapped a $50
billion tariff on Canadian Elvis impersonators, then of course exempted
all but Neil Young.

...and Joni Mitchell, Paul Shaffer, Robbie Robertson and the rest of "The
Band" excluding American Levon Helm, and quite a few others. Then there are
the funny guys, and actors Dan Ackroyd, Christopher Plummer, Martin Short,
Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Norm McDonald, Ryan Gosling, and so it goes...

Dropping support for 16 bit apps is what it comes down to.

At times, an inner world is more valuable than reality. This is undoubtedly an amusement of Onion Knight's. Are you being transparent on purpose? Nearly all advocates in this forum do scripting either as a hobby or as a trade, so I think it unlikely anybody here thinks of automation to be "rare".

As a red-blooded American, I can't blame you, and completely understand
your decision.

Most of us are with you.

Thanks. Let's hope that proves to be the case in November ...
