That makes no sense at all.

It could also be part of a longer sentence, e.g.

After software upgrades, routine backup and restore procedures will also
take much less time.

Can you please explain that to my German speaking colleagues and friends?
:-)

Despite it being a common language construct in German, there really aren't
many examples of this in English. Instead of the correct "I backed up
my data" I have seen many examples of "I backuped (or backupped) my data",
and Germanifications such as "gebackupt"/"gebackupped" where "upgebackt"/
"upgebacked" would be more correct.

Still, I know what they mean :-)

Unwashed masses? Just looks like he's trying to convince his sister

I see this all the time with friends, relatives, etc. I told them that I
will not fix their computers if they don't do backups. I even offered to
back them up for them on how to do them easily with TimeMachine if using
Macs. :(

Perhaps he's trying to counter all the "good" work put in by Microsoft
over the years.

It's time someone did.

Windows or Mac, it's very simple. The current Windows backup works very
well, but with a Mac, there's no excuse for not having a little
external drive on Time Machine. External drives are dirt cheap.

Nope. I can buy a bag of dirt for under NZ$10, but an external hard
drive costs just under NZ$100. Dirt is definitely cheaper. ;-)

You have to buy dirt? They're free if you can do it. ;)

Sure, if you want any old dirt you can digi it up for free, but if you
want quality dirt, then you have to pay for it. ;-)

Which "current Windows backup" would that be?

Considering how easy it is with a Mac, there isn't much expense beyond
the cost of a hard drive. Is that her objection?

Considering how ridiculously cheap even 1TB drives have gotten, the
price shouldn't be a barrier to much of anyone.

Indeed. I'm really curious what her objections are about. It's a
no-brainer for most Mac users.

I can think of one: if she regularly uses a laptop while sitting in
her easy chair, then it takes some time and effort to hook up an
external drive and make a backup. Of course she could get a Time
Capsule, but then that's no longer such a cheap solution.
