While there MAY be a limitation of "10,000,000" colours that the human eye can distinguish, that does not guarantee that the 16,000,000 colours of 24-bit colour actually cover them all. > >>> possible, just like audiodweebs who claim they can hear the difference between >>> vinyl and CDs or well-compressed (320K MP3 or 256K AAC) and Lossless files. >>> They are not liars, because they believe it, but they are still entirely and >>> completely wrong as all testing ever has proved over and over again. > >> I can hear the difference between vinyl and a good CD, even in >> double-blind tests. > > No you can't, because prize money has been offered to anyone who can and > has never been collected. This sounds suspiciously like "harmonic resonance." No. Since you seem to need an exaggerated example: Let's suppose you designed a system that used 30-bit colour, but distributed the bits as 24-bit red, then 3 for green and 3 for blue. Still 1 billion colours, but do you still believe there wouldn't be any way you could see the banding?

This reminds of an old argument I use to hear quite often between the audiophiles. One would say, "I just got a new power amp with .0001% distortion. It sounds much better than my old amp. You don't get to just invent your own color space. 24 bit color (8 bits per channel) produces a wider color gamut than the best human eye can perceive. That is the color space you have to prove doesn't cover all the human eye can perceive. (The color space is really 32 bit because the last 8 bits are transparency, but that doesn't matter for colors). -- Heisenberg's only uncertainty was what pub to vomit in next and Jung fancied Freud's mother too. -- Jared Earle

Repeating that idiocy does not make it any more true. Even dimbulbs like you should be able to find several of the examples where "banding" is shown But my guess is that you are either way to stupid to do searches on your own, or you are not interested in seeing why your preferred platform is inferior in this case. Inferior also to linux, btw

There are only 256 steps from black to pure red, green, blue or white in the 24 bit colour space; from 0-255 for RGB and all three changing in lock step for white. You really think that the eye can't see steps of that size? Then there is the fact that the eye is not evenly sensitive to all colours, so an even colorspace creates problems.
