Well, if you get a phone menu that says "Press 1 for billing, 2 for
technical support" and you press the wrong number, you probably are a
moron. But I suspect at many companies, if you get past all the
automated responses, you end up with the same front-line support people
no matter what kind of problem you have, and it's their job to do triage
for all the 2nd-tier support groups.

The difference is that you can't call the repair staff directly. The
Genius Bar is the first line of defense for all technical issues. It's
their job to vet the problem, and pass it along as necessary.

2.5 years old batery. Had displayed the "service battery" status for the
last 1.5 years or so - it was deffo premature to fail. However I ignored
it as it didn't appear to affect the battery life too much.

Don't know how many cycles it had been through but this is my work &
personal laptop which is connected to the power supply the majority of
the time and is used very heavily.

may have done

I gleaned from other posts that there was some way to determine the
battery cycles but possibly they had some other non-std technique

Click on the Apple in the top left. Select "system properties" and
scroll down to "Battery". It's in there.
