Is there a newsgroup of any value that concentrates on audio production, midi mumbo-jumbo, synths and programming--that kind of stuff? I've finally settled down with the intent of merging/replicating all my Roland GR-30 and Boss GT3 patches into my Roland GR-55. I'm just beginning get the pay-off from the learning curve, which was/is relatively steep. I'm also reminded as I program the GR-55 to shine my shoes and pick up the laundry of something I read years ago: When synths and gizmotronics of all kinds come back for repair, or trade-in or some such, that 99% of the time they arrive with all the default patches; implying the user never made any significant modifications to patches. Beyond a certain level of gizmo engineering you really have to read the whole damn manual and dink and doink your way through a zillion parameters before you really know what you're doing: You have to learn to program it.

rec.audio.pro covers some of this, and you can ask there about
other newsgroups. Not as much value as was there 20+ years ago,
but probably not all that bad, either.
