I am not interested at *any* attempt at anything with an idiot troll like
you. You are scum. "Lowlife" would be way too kind for filth like you

Luckily, I am scum idiot lowlife that gives back to the group,
and who answers each question, and who politely responds to
each issue, without ever getting angry or insulting anyone.

Here is the current summary, based on everyone's kind input, such as yours,
for lowering the entropy as reported by panopticlick.eff.org.

1. User Agent
2. HTTP_ACCEPT Headers
3. Browser Plugin Details
4. Time Zone
5. Screen Size and Color Depth
6. System Fonts
7. Are Cookies Enabled?
8. Limited supercookie test

1. Panopticlick User Agent entropy:
SecretAgent extension https://www.dephormation.org.uk
UserAgentSwitcher extension http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher

2. Panopticlick HTTP_ACCEPT Headers entropy:
RandomAgentSpoofer extension https://github.com/dillbyrne/random-agent-spoofer

3. Panopticlick Browser Plugin Details entropy:
Extensions are OK but do NOT add Plug-ins (which will affect entropy)

4. Panopticlick TimeZone entropy:
This pops up Panopticlick.eff.org with a different time zone:
$ TZ=CET-1 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
$ TZ=UTC+08:00 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
$ TZ=UTC+5 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &

5. Panopticlick Screen Size & Color Depth entropy:
Too bad xrandr can only increase the size of the display (not decrease it):
$ xrandr --output DISPLAY --fb 1366x768

6. Panopticlick System Fonts entropy:
NoScript extension extension https://noscript.net

$ locate fonts.dir
(remove any oddball directory that is not generally found)

7. Panopticlick Are Cookies Enabled? entropy:
Self-Destructing Cookies https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/self-destructing-cookies

8. Panoptoclick Limited supercookie test entropy:
Foundstone HTML5 Local Storage Explorer http://www.foundstone.com

Encrypt web pages that are not encrypted:
HTTPS Everywhere https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere

Yes.

It will make you stand out as an oddball who frequently changes his
timezone for no apparent reason.

That's an interesting observation.

If a geolocation of a UK-based IP address has a Japan TZ,
then, it might stand out, in and of itself.

That would be a negative consequence of changing the TZ
on the fly, for privacy purposes.

Do be careful! You might end up not knowing where you are, where you
came from, where you are going or what you intend to do when/if you
get there!

Or we're stuck in a 1980s anti-drug PSA.

"This is your brain." *shows lively Usenet banter*

"This is your brain on drugs." *guy looks around warily, then covertly types
questions about time zones, screen resolutions, fonts…*

"Any questions?"

(No actual offense intended to the guy asking; just goofing off in an amusingly
surreal thread.)

I don't think surreal covers it. I'm beginning to hear

I've been on Usenet since the days of rn and tin, so, no offense can *ever*
be taken. Well meaning humor is good.

Over time, privacy issues on the Internet have gotten such that
there are probably a thousand things we can do to improve our
privacy, and this thread only successfully answered only about
a dozen of those, namely how to lower the entropy of the following
as reported by panopticlick.eff.org ...

1. User Agent <= entropy lowered via an extension
2. HTTP_ACCEPT Headers <= entropy lowered via an extension
3. Browser Plugin Details <= entropy lowered by managing plug-ins
4. Time Zone <= entropy lowered by manually matching time zones
5. Screen Size and Color Depth <= entropy lowered by matching screen size
6. System Fonts <= entropy lowered via an extension & font management
7. Are Cookies Enabled? <= privacy enhanced via an extension
8. Limited supercookie test <= privacy enhanced via a management tool

Yeah, man. Nancy and her kind promised flashbacks too. Like the flying
cars, never happened. Well, except for those spiders from Xenu I see
sometimes.

If you know how to write HTTPS Everywhere rules for, say,
forums.androidcentral.com or craigslist.com or google.com,
etc., let us know.

The next privacy step is end-to-end encryption for all web
sites, without the need for TOR or VPN.

Somewhere in the U.S.

Yes.

In fact, many things can go haywire. Software logging issue such as double
logging, premature trigger of scheduled tasks, etc. Anything that triggers
based on time.

If you have a software running that use time to check its license expiration
time, and you change the timezone backward before closing the software, the
license may could be invalidated when the software is closed. Same thing can
happen if you've just installed a software with expirable license, then you
change the timezone backward, then run the software.

Oh, BTW. Tor would complain A LOT!

My suggestion is to use a software that change the timezone for the web
browser program only, instead of globally.

That's exactly what we implemented!
$ TZ=CET-1 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
$ TZ=UTC+08:00 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
$ TZ=UTC+5 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
etc.

There are no known negative consequences, and, in fact, this gives us
the ability to match time zones with foreign VPN servers being used.

UTC+1 has the most computer users on the public Internet, though India's
is pretty close as I recall.

No wait, I keep forgetting that China forces the entire country onto a
single time zone, so UTC+8 is most common. However, unless you set your
computer to Chinese, claiming to be in UTC+8 may make you stand out.

> 2. Can the time zone be changed automatically (to accomplish that)?

Yes. Tell your computer you're in Hong Kong.

Yes. Your computer will think you're in Hong Kong.

I just ran a back-to-back test of these two commands:
$ TZ=UTC+1 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
$ TZ=UTC+8 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &

Here are the results:
$ TZ=UTC+1 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
  Time Zone reveals 10.21 bits of identifying info (1 of 1187.29) value=60

$ TZ=UTC+8 firefox -url panopticlick.eff.org &
  Time Zone reveals 5.14 bits of identifying info (1 of 35.21) value=480

Why is it that someone simply interested in lowering bits of
identifying information, is considered a "gibbering loon".

We are now able to easily change the time zone, such that
the bits of identifying information drops from around 7 to 10,
to around 4 to 5.

That's a pretty good result, with no known negative consequences,
for a gibbering loon, wouldn't you say?
