I found out how to boot straight to the command line :D
Control + 'S' I ran fsck looks like you can do a lot of other things
there also.
http://www.westwind.com/reference/os-x/commandline/single-user.html
I wonder if I can set the bootmanager to boot straight into SUM?
That would be fun.

The free utility ONYX has a setting that allows you to set your default
to the Single User, or Safe Mode.
(ONYX/Parameters/Login)

I much prefer "Verbose", though... that way you can see the commands
executed during startup. It's gotten a lot harder since moving to a
SSD drive, however.

Run the terminal emulator and -

  sudo dmesg

You'll have to do this shortly after startup, as the contents
will be rolled over as time passes.

Hold down command + 'v' to show the console messages during boot :)
F8 brings up boot partition selector

Gonna look into Onyx as it was mentioned with AppleJack as VERY useful
to have lying around. Hope its a freebie.

This is obviously some strange usage of the word "fun" that I wasn't
previously aware of. --Thanks, Douglas Adams.
