I'm one of those that miss MT-NW dearly, so it's a welcome effort. But one of the weak points of MT-NW was its UI, unfortunately. Here's a blog I wrote about how to "fix" the UI of Unison, which has really nice, but underused UI: <http://mac.sandman.net/pages/thoughts/2013-10-23/Switching_To_Unison> So that's basically some of the features and UI things I would like to see in a news client. Maybe it can help as some form of feedback. I would certainly expect Signal to "inherit" the strong filtering functions from MT-NW with regexp's and filtering on any header. -- Sandman[.net]

Your UI issue with Unison 2 is well founded and one of the reasons I prefer Unison 1.8.1. is the ability to have separate windows for each NG I am working with, and not having to deal with the cluttered horizontal threading. I find Unison 2 very restrictive when compared with the earlier version. I have both on this Mac running OSX 10.9.3. -- Regards, Savageduck

Then I guess I was mistaken, I paid for 1.0 and the 2.0 update when it
was released, needless to say I was disappointed with 2.0, and I
believed they were offering 1.8.1 free. I have never used any version
of Unison as *evaluationware*.

I didn't mean that. What I mean't was that if you download unison 1.8.1
you get a evaluation copy. I understood that you had paid for a license.
That said I don't think that you becomes a criminal if you use the
crippled version after the fully featured trial has expired.
I'm happy with MT-NW for now though.

One thing I really like about Panic is old versions
of their software are easily available -

Have you sent this to Panic? And, what did they say...?

Filtering is going to be based on NSPredicate, which can get very advanced. The “any header” bit can be tricky, based on how NNTP operates. Don’t know how technical an answer you’re looking for; it’s XOVER (or OVER for servers that advertise the capability). What is in the overview depends on the server. Beyond that, and this is just the plan for later versions, I can (usually) fetch individual headers for articles if the user creates a filter for one that isn’t in the supplied overview. -- dn ƃuᴉʞool ǝɹɐ sƃuᴉɥʇ

I seem to recall trying to add filters for the Path header to stop some particularly bad neighborhoods, and they were to no effect. Could be the server not offering it, but I think I tried other non-overview headers to the same result. -- dn ƃuᴉʞool ǝɹɐ sƃuᴉɥʇ
