#59927 — Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

You've all heard by now that 10.10 will be Yosemite.

Looking at the event transcript: I like a few things it, the dock having
much easier to see "app running" indicators, for example.

The transparent Finder seems silly. I hope that can be turned off.

iCloud Drive seems to be another Dropbox - but I'm not sure I want all
my eggs in the Apple basket. OTOH, a free 5 GB here, a free 5 GB there
... begins to add up at some point.

For the rest, we'll see in the fall...

Did you spot things you like or not in the presentation (I'll try to
catch the keynote on the Apple TV later...).

I hadn't, but then, I hadn't gone looking for new from WWDC.

Anyway, cool name. :-)

Pity the rest of WWDC is pretty much "no news" and Johnny Ive's abysmal
influences on the software everywhere. :-(

Will it have the same name outside North America? If so, there are going
to be pronunciation problems. "Jose might" could be one variation.

Anyway, those names are getting very California-centric. Being neither a
surfer nor a Californian, I had to look up what Mavericks was about.

Cook said last year and again today that the naming sequence will be
about great places in California.

I do think though, that they should have called it "Weed".

"Yous Might" ... as in "Yous might want to install this OS, then again
yous might not". ;-)

Apple should just use numbers and forget the idiotic nametags. The
numbers make it MUCH easier to know how far behind your own computer's
OS is ... Yosemite, Mavericks, Tiger, Lion are all meaningless.

Just go with Yoh-sem-it-ty and you won't be too far wrong.

That is from this Californian and frequent visitor to Yosemite National Park.

Topanga? Mt Diablo? Big Sur? Golden Gate? There's probably 1000 names
they could use.

Not if they stick with National Parks. I'm betting Yellowstone is next.

Who says they are going to stick with National Parks? I don't believe
that Mavericks is a park, just a surfing spot.

Not really. Just correcting a misconception.

They are not using National Parks. It is coincidence that Yosemite is an NP.
They are using California locations, some might be NP parks like
Sequoia & Yosemite, some might be lakes like Tahoe & Tioga, they might
be lakes & mountains like Mammoth & Shasta, The could be a wine country
county like Napa (though there is already NAPA Auto Parts).
