Look at what that look is saying: "Why did you do that to me?"
(first pic).

Good, helpful article, IMO.

Agreed, and thank you for this. It answers a lot of questions.

Last sentence:

"Snow Leopard has had a good run, but as time wears on you'll either
have to bite the bullet and buy new hardware or be faced with an
increasingly less capable, more vulnerable machine."

I'm sticking with the latter path, and it doesn't have me particularly
worried.

You aren't alone. While I do run the latest and greatest on my main
workstation, I do also have machines that cannot be upgraded past 10.6,
and don't intend to shut them down any time soon.

Not to mention my MacBook that's running 10.4...

Same here, and most vulnerability is the user's fault anyway.

While it discusses upgrade scenarios from various platforms, it does not
discuss the issue of Snow Leopard users for whom moving to Mavericks is
a downgrade and have no desire to go to it because of the changes done
by Apple in the wrong direction.

10.8 and 10.9 fixed a lot of the nastiness that 10.7 brought. And for
many things that didn't get fixed, many users discovered tricks to
return those behaviours to how they were in Snow Leopard.

I, for example, dislike versions, strongly dislike auto save, and hate
resume with a passion. Gladly there is a way to disable them all.

What is it about 10.9 that you don't like? There may be a way to fix it.

I am not ruling out Mavericks. However, it is the work required to
research how to turn off/disable all the unwanted features, setting up a
VM to still boot Snow Leopard for Rosetta apps now and then etc etc
which delays the upgrade. For instance, the change in NFS is something
which affects me, so I have to research that too.

Facetime/imessage is about the only thing I feel I am missing out in
Snow Leopard.

Fixable in System Preferences; Mouse, and then set the check box
"Scroll direction: natural" to your liking.

Scrolls the right way, since we hardly need scroll bars any longer.

Meanwhile, no Rosetta or 32-bit machines. Think I GAS? No, you're
right, I don't.
