Your "oul' woman" is smart. :-) She isn't "whining" about Eudora; she's pointing out that it's a superior email client. :-) It's the main reason that I'm still on 10.6, too, although I also have other programs I like that need Rosetta. I liked Eudora too, but realized too late one of the problems in migrating its files to a different machine, with or without changing to a new mailer. The links from the mail file to the attachments file are full file-system paths, so if you move the mail file and attachments file and the rest of the Eudora structure to a different machine the links to the attachment file get broken. I suspect one could recover from that by running a script (possibly just a simple replace-all on the volume name part of the path might work) against the mail file that edited the paths to ones that point to the right place, but I haven't tried it. -- Ted

Various ages, actually, but several things that work on 10.6 and have the ability to access even older programs from time to time, including both graphics and documents created and saved in programs with more flexibility than their modern, limited versions. Pages, for instance, can only do half the things AppleWorks could, but can open quite a few AW things. I have yet to find ways Pages is supposed to be an improvement on AW, which I did not find a noticeable improvement on ClarisWorks except that it worked on both OS 9 and X, which was convenient while my local network still functioned until Apple killed it with the later OS X+s -- Erilar, biblioholic medievalist

Well, I guess that answers my question, posed in a different thread.
It is typical of Apple, though. Microsoft gave WinXP users five years
or so of warning, including a couple of extensions, before pulling the
plug; Apple? Well Apple tells us "Hey, guys, by the way, SL went
obsolete last year. Didn't we tell you?"
I suppose it's just as well I'll never need nor want another
computer.

This may be the case when referencing how many releases of OS since Snow Leopard. But is this truly the came when referencing time ? As the article stated, with annual changes to the OS, the versions numbers now change much faster. What I would like to know (which I am sure Apple won't reveal) is whether Apple has unbiased data on why people are still on Snow Leopard.

Some of us are still on 10.6 because it does everything we need it to, it's familiar, and no features of later versions have sounded compelling enough to upgrade. Now that support for 10.6 is being dropped I'll have to reconsider. I'm loath to go to Mavericks, though, because I understand it will break my newsreader and possibly some other older apps I keep around. -- bill
