#53382 — finder icons pixilated

Subjectfinder icons pixilated
Message-ID<151220131029029296%whanna@invalid.invalid>
when i look at folders of my art (in icon view in the finder with icons
set as larger as possible (512 px i think)) they are not at all sharp
but very pixilated.

i'm using PS CS6 to save the files.

shouldn't those icons be sharp and crisp at 512 pixels?

any ideas?

not necessarily.

get an asset management app like lightroom or aperture or even iphoto,
finder was never intended to manage photos.

They can be, yes, if they're created at 512x512. For example,
here are two of Apple's on a 1280x1024 display -

Perhaps Graphic Converter will do this better, although I
can't check it today to confirm. You can, at no cost -

http://www.lemkesoft.de/en/products/graphicconverter/

In its File menu, select Convert & Modify, then select
Create Icon (or something quite close to that), then a
photo and give it a try.

thanks Billy

i found the process a bit confusing, and am not sure i did it correctly

in any case, it didn't improve the finder icons

maybe you can try it when you get a chance

specifying icon size.

do you know where it is?

I don't. I just checked PS CS5 and it appears that under the file
handling preferences there isn't an option to adjust the icon image
size, but...

...did you check there to see if Photoshop is creating an icon image at all?

It's possible that for some reason the Finder is not doing a good job
of creating a preview on the fly.

apparently PS CS6 is creating a low-res image for the icon. and i can't
seem to figure out how or if that can be changed.
