Well, today I had my first problem upgrading system software on one of my Macs. I downloaded Mavericks on my Early 2011 MBP (15", 2.0 GHz i7, 4 Gig RAM), and when I started it up, there was no Finder. Finder kept trying to start, but kept quitting. Had a chat session with Support. They suggested fixing permissions from the repair partition, but that didn't help. So, I am now in the process of downloading Mavericks again so I can reinstall it. Arrghh!

I just followed the advice of the Apple tech rep. After downloading Mavericks again and reinstalling it, it looked as if I was having the same problem, namely the finder wouldn't start. Actually, I got a message saying that the Finder had unexpectedly quit while opening windows, asking me if I wanted to reopen them. I had said no. I then logged out, and tried the other user accounts I have on the computer. Each seemed OK. I went back into my account, and got the same message. This time I clicked the "Reopen windows" button, and everything was OK. Hopefully it will stay that way. Thanks for your help.
