Did anyone ever get to the bottom of why Apple decided to discontinue Mobile Me? It was such a great integrative tool, and it's been painful to switch over. I now use 3 separate services for an online drive, web , and picture gallery! Apple could have maintained a monopoly on this just by relying on lazy users like me.

Which version of Mac OS X do you use? iCloud ought to be pre-configured
and installed.

I hope you didn't lose any data during the iCloud switch-over.

they didn't have a monopoly on it.

Not at all. It depends on what you want from the cloud.

MobileMe was much better at syncing stuff that is no longer supported,
like Keychains. It also had iDisk that was very handy, and it had an
actual backup application that you could schedule a backup of files to
the cloud just by selecting them.

None of this 'skydrive' folder crap and such.

That said, iCloud is better at the iOS stuff and directly supporting
syncing data from Apple only apps.

Personally I would have preferred to have Apple expand on MobileMe with
the new stuff that iCloud gives instead of replacing it. And would have
been willing to pay for that service just as I did ever since the .mac
days and onward.

I use iCloud for those things it supports, but use other things because
they are better for other things.

Like Skydrive and the MS online apps. With 25Gb of free storage and
those applications, it fills the more mundane things I might want to do
quite well.

I also use Windows Live Mesh because of the similarities to iDisk.
Unfortunately while that still works, MS is pretty much said they are
abandoning it for Skydrive. No timeline on when that will happen and
have Live Mesh Drive quit working.
