Sorry if this is the wrong ng for an Apple TV question, but I'm pretty 
sure someone will know the answer to this.

Is there a Screen Saver or other setting that will make the TV *screen* 
go blank/sleep while I play iTunes music? 

Anything that involves the "Sleep" setting puts the whole thing to sleep 
- result: no music. I don't want the distraction of a screen saver when 
all I want is the audio. 

Is this not possible, or am I missing something?

I just came up with a workaround:

+++

* Create a new, all-black, jpeg graphic in the same aspect ratio as the 
screen (16:9). 

* Save three copies of it to a new iPhoto album. 

* Select that album as the Apple TV Screensaver source.

It gives me the result I'm looking for, but if there's an "official" way 
of doing it I'd appreciate knowing what it is.

I'd much rather hook the audio cables to an amplifier, and not wear down 
the monitor, and have decent sound.

Yabbut, the latest Apple TV doesn't have Audio Out jacks, only HDMI - 
and that has to go into my TV - and Optical Audio. I'm going to give it 
a try with an Optical Audio cable, and that may well bypass the TV - I 
just don't have the cable yet.

Just hooked up an optical cable - can now listen to music with the TV 
off - and it sounds sensational!

Thanks to all for the insights & pointers. 

Is there a ng for the Apple Mail program? 

I just switched to Mail from Entourage & haven't got it working quite 
the way I want it.

no, but questions about mail.app would be appropriate for comp.sys.mac.comm 
which is the newsgroup for Macintosh communications software and protocols.
