Why? You're the only one arguing and you do this same shit over and over
again. If you;re incapable of keeping up on Apple news, then either do
your own research or don't. But if you shit in one hand and demand that
I have an obligation to educate you with the other, see what you have at
the end of the day.

As has been pointed out to you several times (probably several dozen
times on various topics where you claim that there are no facts because
you do not consider Apple's statements factual) Apple's numbers are
facts. You don't like them, no one cares.

Most Macs sold in the last decade (almost all of them) come with SSDs,
therefor most Mac users are using SSDs. This is very simple for anyone
to understand. Anyone ELSE, evidently.

And yes, there are some Mac that do not have SSDs, but the majority of
SALES are in the laptops, and those have been 100% SSD for quite a long
time, And that majority of sales is overwhelming., not merely 50.01%.

apple does.

the vast majority of macs sold (around 80%) are macbooks, which have an
ssd. an hd is not even an option anymore.

there's also those who have upgraded a failing hd with an ssd, or just
to give new life to an aging computer.

Well, I took the consensus advice and turned on FileVault. Problem
solved. Thanks for all the advice.

It took a few hours for FV to encrypt the 1 TB HD on my iMac and all is
fine there.

But it's taking forever to encrypt my Time Machine backup external
drive- a 1 TB WD USB 3.0 connected via the factory cable to a USB 3 port
on the iMac. It's been 52 hours and counting. Gauging by the progress
graphic, it's still only about 80% done.
