If they have, according to you, no text books, then you didn't.
You lied.
You donating an old copy of Playgirl doesn't count.

Your system is full of waste and special interest groups.
That's why they don't have books.
It isn't lack of funding.
The schools spending is on par with revenues from Hershey.

"Conservatives fear an educated population"

Geez, what a moron.

Democrats are the ones freely handing out welfare to the filthiest
people in the world in the hope that they won't get an education.

You have local vote on school taxes, right? And minimal if any State
support to compensate for low local taxes.

In all Anglo-Saxon countries, education tends to be seen as a private
good, hence the grudging support from the taxpayers. After all, why pay
for some other kid to compete with mine? [1] In the other first-world
countries, education tends to be seen as a public good, hence heavily
subsidised post-secondary education, including apprenticeships. In poor
countries, education is a luxury whether public or private.

[1] Many years ago, I was invited to speak about education to a local
Chamber of Commerce event when the schedule speaker was snowed in. I got
many thoughtful questions and comments. Afterwards, a member spoke with
me privately, and wondered if we were educating "too many people" in
college and university. His context-setting comments indicated quite
clearly that he was worried his children would have too much
competition, especially from the children of the working classes.

We have little funding for schools. From ANY source. Period. This is a
state-wide problem... which is not surprising given how it is a "red"
state. We have been listed as the number 50 state for being a teacher.

Too bad. I'm sure people use fundraisers etc to meliorate the bad
effects of under funding, and I wish them all possible success.

They fund vacant buildings, spend $24,000,000 on desegregation, yet have no
desegregation plan, got a teacher raise, went on strike for another raise,
though didn't strike over lack of books.

It's all about the kids though.

Cue bullshit.

It's time you went to college to become a teacher. I'm sure you will be
very good at it. It's obvious you have expert opinions on the system.

Nah, I can no be a teacher, no patients ;)
Hell, just the two things I listed above is $50,000,000/year.
Bam! ... Books.

In the 20 minutes I researched this, I'm beginning to wonder that it might
be more cost effective to simply give every child $250,000 at birth.
You're born, you get a SS# and a quarter million in an account that bears
interest for the next 18 years.

Let the parents teach 'em to read, write, arithmetic ... a few might learn
calculus too. :)

Heck, with that platform, I'd be elected President taking 92% of the vote.

That it isn't lack of funding, it's responsible, sensible spending of the

We do better than that.
Federal, State, Local spending for 2016 (most accurate for state & local):
Defense- $853,100,000,000
Education- $1,040,200,000,000
